"Big Tony"

A flashy dresser and infamous in Miami Beach during the 60's and 70's, "Big Tony" worked as a sparring partner for Sonny Liston early in his career. During and after his boxing career, which ended in the 60's, he was a regular at many of the hot spots of South Florida's club scene. According to police records, he was arrested 11 times, but all of his victims refused to press charges. In 1967, "Big Tony was the apparent target of a bomb that missed Happy's Stork Lounge in North Bay Village, Florida. Shortly afterwards, on October 31st, he was arrested for gunning down reputed mobster Thomas "The Enforcer" Altamura at a Florida restaurant. Newspapers reported that "Big Tony" approached Altamura as he waited to be seated and shot him to death. The police used force to get "Big Tony" to cooperate, and he threw the police around like rag dolls. He was ultimately found guilty and sentenced to prison.
